2017 Trailblazers: Making Big Moves & Leading the Pack

In 2003 I found myself sitting at the large dining room table in the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills, California. I had just met Hugh Hefner and secured his cooperation for my proposed biography, and we were discussing an exchange of letters between him and Ronald Reagan in the 1950s over McCarthyism and the “blacklist” in Hollywood.

Editor’s Note
What is the true measure of a man? Is it the way he looks, his physical size or his strength?
I have consistently found the term “manhood” to be a very vague and complex or multi-dimensional. I have picked up that in society, that very same term is used to describe many different things.
To many it may refer to the state of one being born a male, while some might assume you are referring to male genitalia.
Others may feel qualified as genuine men by the number of females they get to bed, while in many black cultures, you only become a man once you return from initiation school – sometimes referred to as “the mountain”.
Some of the latter may be deemed correct, depending on their context. But on a more serious note, what is the true measure of a man today’s world which is inherently more globalised, intercultural and diverse?
In my opinion, manhood is more relative to how one carries themselves in society or even in their small family enclaves. I feel the true measure of a man is in the way he handles his responsibilities, interacts with others and contribute positively to his immediate environment in whichever way he can.
I would therefore never classify males who violate the rights of other human beings as men, especially the rights of vulnerable women and children. That is why male perpetrators in the latter regard who are commonly asked why don’t they go fight other men or someone their own size – if they do feel the need to unleash their aggression.
In spite of all the depraved things we hear or read about all types of uncouth males, I am elated by the fact that there are some males who are doing great things out there. There are males who are not only leading good families, but are a living example of what it means to be a man.
It brings me great pleasure to publish in this edition of ON POINT MAN the story of an extraordinary man; a man par excellence. This is a man who stood strong and sought divine intervention when faced with overwhelming adversity. He has been duly recognised for his efforts by government and continues to be the change he wants to see in society.
Also in this edition, we give business tips and debunk myths about the lives of the wealthy, pertinent to the lifestyles, while an excerpt of a brilliantly written opinion column by the Minister of Public Service and Administration, Advocate Ngoako Ramatlhodi, enlightens us about governance.
On a much lighter note, we have an article about the prospective alterations that are going to be made to made to the notorious “Vrrrphaa”. This car has proven to be menace to many a relationship across the country, but one can never deny its distinct impact, elegance and predominance.
Until our next edition, enjoy.
